Picking the Perfect Greeting Card for a Millennial

At Madison Park Greetings, we love to play with bright colors, whimsical puns, and luxe details to help you celebrate all occasions and moments. Our cards are well-crafted, helping you to inspire, encourage, celebrate, and so much more. We have cards for people of all ages, but we know how challenging it can sometimes be to find that perfect card for someone, especially if they are a millennial.

A millennial is someone typically born between 1981-1996. The term was coined in 1991 by historians Neil Howe and William Strauss after realizing the older millennials would be graduating high school in 2000. They are the first global generation and the first generation that grew up in the internet age. According to The American Psychological Association’s 2018 Stress in America report, they are also the most stressed out of Boomers and older Americans. (No surprise there, my fellow Gen Y’ers…)

So, how do you pick the perfect greeting card for an overburdened millennial? Luckily, millennials have proven to be the number 1 customer for greeting cards! Because they are characterized as the technology-obsessed and social media generation, millennials love to prioritize that personal, handwritten gesture.

The best way to pick out the perfect card is to follow these 3 Easy Steps:

Think about your relationship to that person.

Think about what that individual person means to you. Would your sister enjoy a funny card? Would your grandma adore a card that depicts someone baking? The more you know about your recipient, the easier it is to pick a card that best suits their personality.

Think about what that person likes.

Think about their favorite color, their hobbies, and their personality. If they’re more outgoing, they would probably enjoy a vivid design over something simple. A person who loves to tell jokes will most likely welcome a funny greeting card. If your card recipient adores penguins, they would definitely cherish their penguin card.

What kind of message do you want to write?

Your message can be as creative or simple as you want it to be. Did something important happen in your life that you would like to share with someone special? Did something important happen to them? Adding a memorable message adds to the card’s specialness. Take your time! Remember, a simple ‘Thinking of You’ goes a long way!

I KNEW IT WAS YOUR BIRTHDAY WITHOUT SOCIAL MEDIA (JUST SAYIN’)

Birthday Card MillennialA millennial is a digital native because of their familiarity with the internet and social media. However, they are also more inclined to turn their phones off when surrounded by friends and family. This age group enjoys birthday cards because they are thoughtful and a refreshing step out of the digital box.

EVERYTHING WILL BE OK

Inspirational Card Millennial

It’s no secret that Gen Y is the generation of student debt and stress. Compared to their parents’ generation, they are earning 20% less money. With the recession and now the added burdens of the global pandemic, Gen Y is finding it difficult to maintain a job, even with their college degrees. This EVERYTHING WILL BE OK card is a nice gesture to let them know you are there for them, and the stress will hopefully be behind them one day soon.

CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW HOME, HOPE YOUR NEIGHBORS AREN’T WEIRDOS

Congrats New Home

Earning 20% less money than the older generation makes it more difficult to invest. Millennials, while investing in their 401k’s, tend to focus more on what they need immediately. However, when they do invest in something big like their future home, it’s a pretty exciting moment. They will happily appreciate all of your support!

GO OFF AND COME BACK WITH STORIES

Bon Voyage Millennial

Millennials make up the largest generation in the workforce and are so dedicated to their work, a good percentage of people don’t take the recommended amount of vacation time. However, millennials prioritize travel before marriage and having children. It’s important to take off some much-needed time every now and again, and this card is perfect for someone who is proudly taking a much needed break.

HELLO

Thinking Of You Millennial

While the older generation has more of a seasonal purchase pattern when it comes to greeting cards like Valentine’s Day and Holiday Cards, everyday and just because cards are becoming popular among people in their late 20s – early 40s who don’t need a reason to remind someone close to them how much they mean to them. They are also more inclined to shop small/independent companies, and would absolutely appreciate if you did the same!
